DeanwoodxDesign Sound Series presents singer-songwriter Free (Yvette Benjamin) On Saturday September 15th, at 7pm.
When asked how long she’s been singing, Yvette Benjamin’s response is she can’t remember not singing. She has performed such venues as the kennedy center, carter barron, blues alley, howard university’s crampton auditorium, fort dupont park and others. She has performed at nationally acclaimed events, such as the 25th African street festival in Brooklyn New York and a tribute to activist/humanitarian/comedian Dick Gregory.
She has performed and recorded with Tony Fountaine, Sedatrius Brown, 2000 black/ancient future,Brother ah/hifi, Blacknotes, Sweet Honey in the Rock, Vinx and Ayanna Gregory. She has shared the stage with Run DMC, BB King, Phoebe Snow, The Last Poets, Roy Ayers, Stevie Wonder and Issac Hayes.
